Act Of Shame: Two Military Men Fight Each Other To Death Over A Girl In Lagos.

soldier (1)Two military officers, Hilary and Sheu Abdullahi, fought each other to death on Sunday morning at a popular night club on Pen Crescent, Apapa area of Lagos over a girlfriend.
Hilary, a corporal in the Nigerian Army had gone to the club with his girlfriend who was donned in a military outfit.
The problem however began when the bouncers at the club stopped the lady and challenged her for wearing a camouflage despite not being a military officer.
Hilary in defense of his girlfriends, allegedly asked why they would question his girlfriend in his presence and an argument ensued.
Abdullahi, a naval officer who tried to settle the dispute, further fueled the fight by slapping the soldier’s girlfriend for disrespecting him.
Confirming the incident, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Lelma Kolle, said,
“yes, the incident happened. Actually, two people died. We received a distress call from someone that there was a situation at the club and we instantly rushed to the scene. We were able to bring the situation under control and prevent further loss of lives. It was just unfortunate that by the time we got there, the two officers had died. But the police arrested two military officers in connection with the incident.”

He added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, and the corpses of the slain officers have been deposited in the mortuary.

FROM THE GIRL THAT SPREAD THE WATER AND SALT RUMOR. My confession

My confession and apology
Dear nairalanders and everyone who have heard
of the ebola Prevention "News", My name is
Adesewa, I am coming out clean because what
started has a joke has escalated into the
unprecedented.
How it started
Yesterday i was with friend in her hostel, we
were talking about this Ebola out break, when
one of my friend...s, Funke (she introduced me to
nairaland) brought the idea of Us playing a
prank on our friends. The first suggestion was
to tell people that aloe very could cure Ebola,
but we thought it would sound too ridiculous so
we forgot about it.
Later that even an idea came to me (i now
regret that i did it).
I decided to send a BBM broadcast message to
my friends, telling them that the Ministry of
Health has asked everyone to bathe with salt
and warm water and drink some of it.
I sent the message 7:08pm yesterday
Later this midnight i started getting calls and
messages that i should drink salt water and
bath with it.
All efforts to tell people that i was the one who
started the joke failed. Only my friends who i
mentioned earlier believed me. Even my mum
could me this morning, i did not know what to
tell her.
I am using this medium to beg you all to warn
and tell everyone, before they drink salt and
damage their health.
Please dont be hash on me. I know this has
gone out of hand. I never knew it will be this
serious. Some have even added to the original
message i sent. Funny right

Obama authorizes air strikes to prevent Iraq ‘genocide’

WASHINGTON (AFP) – President Barack Obama ordered US warplanes back into the skies over Iraq on Thursday to drop food to refugees and if necessary launch air strikes to halt what he said was a potential “genocide.”The US air armada’s first mission was to drop food and water to thousands of members of the Yazidi religious minority besieged by Sunni extremist fighters from the so-called Islamic State (IS). Tens of thousands of Iraqi Christians have also fled.Obama warned that he had also authorized the military to carry out targeted strikes in support of Iraqi forces to break the Islamists’ advance or to protect US advisors working on the ground. The president said US warplanes could also target Islamic State militants if they advance on the city of Arbil, where the US has a diplomatic presence and advisors to Iraqi forces.“We plan to stand vigilant and take action if they threaten our facilities anywhere in Iraq, including the consulate in Arbil and embassy in Baghdad,” he said.A senior US defense official confirmed the mission had already dropped “critical meals and water for thousands of Iraqi citizens,” referring to Yazidis trapped in the open on Mount Sinjar in northern Iraq. There will be more aid drops if necessary, another US official told reporters.Obama said there were perhaps tens of thousands of civilian refugees, and he accused the IS of attempting “the systematic destruction of the entire people, which would constitute genocide.”The president admitted the United States can not act every time it sees injustice, but insisted: “We can act, carefully and responsibly to prevent a potential act of genocide.“That’s what we’re doing on that mountain. I therefore authorized targeted air strikes if necessary to help forces in Iraq as they fight to break the siege and protect the civilians trapped there,” he added.Despite this note of determination, Obama was at pains to assure war-weary Americans that he — the president who withdrew US forces from Iraq — was not about to get “dragged into fighting another war.”“American combat troops will not be returning to fight in Iraq because there is no American military solution to the larger crisis in Iraq,” he said.- ‘Wake-up call’ -Earlier, in New York, the United Nations Security Council urged world powers “to support the government and the people of Iraq and to do all it can to help alleviate the suffering of the population.”Iraqi Ambassador Ali al-Hakim said the meeting focused on the need for urgent relief efforts to help civilians fleeing the violence. Separately, French President Francois Hollande’s office said “France was available to support forces engaged in this battle.”Obama came to office determined to end US military involvement in Iraq and in his first term oversaw the withdrawal of the huge ground force deployed there since the 2003 American invasion. But recent rapid gains by the Islamic State, a successor group to Al-Qaeda’s former Iraqi and Syrian operations, compelled him to send military advisors back to Baghdad to evaluate the deteriorating situation. The Sunni extremists, along with other Sunni factions, are at war with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s mainly Shiite government forces and with the peshmerga forces of the Kurdish autonomous region of the country. In late June, IS proclaimed a “caliphate” straddling rebel-held areas of Syria and Iraq and seized the major city of Mosul. In recent days, it has taken over towns formerly populated by Christians and Yazidis.Iraqi religious leaders say the militants have forced 100,000 Iraqi Christians to flee and have occupied churches, removing crosses and destroying manuscripts.Entirely Christian Qaraqosh was among the towns taken over by militants, they told AFP.US Secretary of State John Kerry, in a strongly worded statement, accused IS of waging a “campaign of terror against the innocent, including Yazidi and Christian minorities, and its grotesque and targeted acts of violence bear all the warning signs and hallmarks of genocide.“For anyone who needed a wake-up call, this is it.”Republican senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham however accused Obama of not going far enough. “We need a strategic approach, not just a humanitarian one. A policy of containment will not work against ISIS (IS),” they said in a statement.- Stranded -Those who had fled described the militant onslaught.“I heard some gunshots last night and, when I looked outside, I saw a military convoy from the Islamic State shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’,” said Boutros Sargon, a refugee who was reached by phone in Arbil.Several thousand Yazidis, members of an ancient pre-Muslim religious minority, are stranded on high ground after being driven out of their home town of Sinjar by IS fighters.Fares Sinjari Abu Ivan, a Yazidi beekeeper who fled with his 80-year-old mother to the barren mountains, told AFP by phone that some groups had attempted to flee but experienced mixed fortunes.“We have spoken to some who made it to Turkey but in their flight they encountered Daash (Islamic State) fighters who cut the road. Some fled, some were killed and others came back to the mountain.”Turkish officials said up to 800 displaced Sinjaris made their own way to Turkey, while the PKK Kurdish separatist group said it had evacuated several families after opening a safe passage to Syria. The Islamic State boasted of its latest victories, declaring: “We are pleased to announce to the Islamic nation a new liberation in Nineveh province, teaching the secular Kurds a lesson.

Liberia complains of harassment of citizens in Nigeria over Ebola virus

ABUJA (AFP) – The Liberian government complained Thursday that its citizens were being harassed and “stereotyped” in Nigeria following the death in a Lagos hospital of one of its citizens infected with Ebola virus.“The attention of our embassy has been brought to several cases of harassment of Liberians especially in Lagos and other places. This harassment borders on stereotyping and sometimes expression of collective guilt,” Liberian ambassador to Nigeria, Martin George, said. The patient who brought the virus to Lagos on July 20, Liberian finance ministry employee Patrick Sawyer, was placed under quarantine at a private hospital. He died on July 25.“Just because the ‘index case’ came from Liberia, so ‘all Liberians in Nigeria have Ebola’. That is the message and people are being harassed,” said the diplomat. He was speaking during a meeting the Nigerian Health minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, held with heads of diplomatic missions in the country on developments on Ebola virus.Nigeria on Wednesday confirmed five new cases of Ebola in Lagos and a second death from the virus, a nurse, bringing the total number of infections in sub-Saharan Africa’s largest city to seven.“There are law-abiding Liberians living here in Nigeria who have been harassed. So I appeal for your indulgence as you frame the responses especially on the radio talk shows. People have been making all kind of derogatory remarks that have been brought to our attention,” the Liberian diplomat said.- ECOWAS suspends meetings -Regional grouping ECOWAS also said at the same meeting that it has suspended momentarily meetings that could bring representatives of its member states together.ECOWAS Commission vice president Toga Mcintosh said that the management of the 15-nation grouping has decided “to suspend all meetings that will bring us together coming from our various countries”.“Except if the mision is so essential and well guided, we will approve. All other missions, meetings will be suspended for a while.”The suspension is initially for the whole of August, after which the situation will be reviewed for further action, an ECOWAS spokesman, Sunny Ugoh, told AFP.The Lagos liaison office of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) has been temporaily closed down and fumigated, Mcintosh told the meeting. It was clear that some ECOWAS officials had primary contact with Sawyer in the organisation’s Lagos office when he arrived, he also said, but gave no further details. The Nigerian health minister said Nigeria will begin to screen all outbound air travellers and if they are found to have the Ebola virus, they will be asked to stay back.“We don’t want them to go to other countries and cause problems for those countries…. We can’t allow you to take it (Ebola virus) to your country and cause problems for them,” Chukwu said.
